Summer Savory Transplant

$4.50

The ancient Roman writer, Pliny, named the genus ‘Satureja,’ which is derived from the word “satyr,” a half goat and half man mythological being who revelled in all savory delights. It was these ancient Romans that introduced the herb to England around the time of Caesar’s reign. Both winter and summer savory have a strong peppery flavour, although winter savory has a more pungent flavour than summer. Both herbs can be used in a variety of foods and help to enliven flavour without the use of additional salt and pepper. Savory is not only used in a variety of culinary preparations, but the dried leaves are often added to potpourri. The fresh or dried leaves can also be used to infuse vinegar, herb butters or steeped for tea. Treat as an annual.

Winter Savory Transplant

For this reason, winter savory herbs are often paired with beans during cooking since the addition of salt at that time would toughen the beans. Savory is not only used in a variety of culinary preparations, but the dried leaves are often added to potpourri. The fresh or dried leaves can also be used to infuse vinegar, herb butters or steeped for tea. Hardy to zone 5.

‘SK Red Mammoth’ Raspberry

$12.00$40.00

Red Mammoth is a highly productive summer-bearing (Floricane) variety of raspberry. It’s an improvement over the prairie standard (Boyne) raspberry being sweeter, larger (rightfully named) and higher yielding.

The delicious Red Mammoth Raspberries typically average around 2.2 cm (just under 1″) in diameter. It was rated first place for highest yield in growing trials in Manitoba. Berries are highly flavoured and great for fresh eating, freezing and processing. Berries start to ripen a few weeks later than Red Bounty, typically from around the middle of July and will produce all summer long. Canes will require support through trellising. Released by the University of Saskatchewan in 1999. Floricane.

HOPE IN THE FIELD DONATION

$5.00$1,000.00

Linden Lane Farms’ ‘Hope in the Field’ cancer fundraiser! This October, proceeds from every Pink, Blue and Green Pumpkin we grew and sell will be donated to the BC Children’s Hospital’s Oncology department and other charities that help families do family events away from treatments in honour of our dear friend Brooke Malakoff. Brooke battled a rare childhood cancer since our graduation year of high school until her passing during our first cancer fundraiser in 2015. Together, Brooke and I decided on donating the proceeds for the other children that depend on the oncology department. These fun coloured pumpkins can be purchased at our Pumpkin and Fall Vegetable Sale at the farm as well as the Nelson and Castlegar markets in October. Proceeds from Candy Bags and T-shirts as well as additional customer donations will also go towards this great cause.

Previously our fundraiser was known as ‘Pink in the Field’. With your support, we have raised over $8,000 since 2015.

We appreciate your support!
